The name « Roero », as a geographic identity, is fairly recent. From the beginning of the seventies, this name has identified the hilly region situated north of Alba where, a long time ago, an old and noble family of Asti named Roero ruled the country for ages. During the following years, new villages situated on the left side of the Tanaro river (due to their geographic affinity and similar capacity) joined to the first group of villages identified by Roero. Today, this group includes twenty-four towns, twenty-three of which are situated in Cuneo Province and one in Asti Province. These towns extend up to 416,86 km2 for a population of 79.383 inhabitants at the last census dated 31.12.2000.

EUROPEAN HISTORY

On date 5^th August 1984, in the occasion of the “3^rd  European day” celebration dealing with “Ratification of the European Parliament Agreement and involvement of Spain and Portugal in the European Community”, the mayor of Corneliano, Mr Francesco Balbo has officially received from the Britannic Member of Parliament, Mr Peter Hardy, the “DRAPEAU D’HONNEUR” which represents the  honorific European flag offered to the Roero city by the European Communities Council of Strasbourg (C.C.E.). In that way, Corneliano received a reward thanks to its numerous initiatives for the European ideal diffusion in favour of populations created during the year 1973 in the occasion of the twinning signature with the French town of Bezouce, situated in the Nimes region.
